The Change of Command ceremony is a very important part of a command when the commanding officer is relieved of his/her duty and the command is handed over to the new commanding officer. It is a formal reading of military orders and is taken very seriously.
This was our first Change of Command ceremony in the fleet and I have to say it was absolutely beautiful! The ceremony was taken place on the flight line, right outside of the hanger in beautiful Kaneohe, HI. It was such a pleasure getting to know the CO and his wife over the last year. They were so loving and welcoming to us. We will miss them but we are also looking forward to getting to know the new CO. Welcome Lt Col Pavelka!
So, what do you wear to one of these? Well, your husband will not have to worry about that. As for you, consider wearing something a little dressy. This is considered a "formal" event. Even if you are stationed in a very warm place like Hawaii! It is ALWAYS better to overdress and to prevent yourself properly. (No short shorts, boobs hanging out, etc.) For all of you new military wives - this is a big deal. We will get into that some other time. (Maybe when Marine Corps Ball time comes around)
P.S. My husband flies those helicopters in the picture... pretty darn cool if you ask me!

Traditionally in Change of Command ceremonies the family is presented with flowers as a thank you for their sacrifice. Something very special in Hawaii is that we give them leis! Mahalo for everything you did for the squadron Kim! (All fresh flowers by the way)
